Alex holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, where he majored in French Horn, finishing with a final GPA of 6.2/7. He currently teaches French Horn at Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie), all Brass instruments at Trinity Lutheran College and Upper Brass at Citipointe Christian College. Alex periodically performs with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) and has played with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO), Ensemble Q, Camerata, and both the Australian and Queensland Youth Orchestras. Furthermore, he performs in ad-hoc performances such as Bootleg Beatles, Ministry of Sound and the Australian Pops Orchestra.
Alex is well versed in the AMEB syllabus and can tailor lesson plans for all grades to achieve outstanding results. Lessons involve aural and technical exercises founded upon the American West Coast schools of brass pedagogy paired with training in accent method breathing. For mastery of repertoire Alex draws upon personal performance experience from a wide variety of styles and genres so that the student can not only understand the music but the history and relevance of the piece.
On a personal level, Alex moved from Sydney to Queensland for tertiary studies and has now happily settled here to work and live. He has three older brothers and a younger sister and in his spare time he enjoys fishing, playing sport and catching up with friends.
