After studying with private piano and cello teachers in Sydney and at the Sydney Conservatorium, I moved to Singapore in the early 1970s. There, I completed my LRSM (Teaching) and trained as a Yamaha Music Teacher.
Since then, I have lived and taught in Singapore, Canberra, Cairns, eventually moving to Sydney in 1992 where I have set up my studio.
My studio is in my home, in Pennant Hills. I teach on a grand piano, Kawai RX-2. Most of my students receive a practical lesson once a week and, depending on their level, a weekly group musicianship lesson. The duration of the practical lesson depends on the level of the student.
As a means of structured and rounded musical development, I enter my students for AMEB Comprehensive Exams. To encourage each student and provide them with performance experience, I find student practice competitions and studio concerts helpful.
Most important to me is that students enjoy their lessons and playing their pieces, understand what they are doing and become inspired by the music they are creating.
