Damon Grant is a performer and educator with more than 30 years professional experience in Australia, New Zealand and internationally. He teaches saxophone and jazz at Caulfield Grammar School.
Damon is a member of well known Melbourne funk band The Bamboos and has played in Melbourne soul-funk diva Kylie Auldist’s band for many years. He plays in and writes for his own jazz quartet The Wairua Collective and plays in the New Zealand reggae band House of Shem.
Damon builds lessons based on the students needs and goals. He can focus on a broad range of styles as he has had performing and teaching experience in a variety of areas. He is comfortable teaching beginners and advanced students, young and mature age.
Damon has extensive experience guiding students through the VCE Saxophone Performance Syllabus and the AMEB Saxophone Syllabus. He has helped students prepare successful auditions for university study at VCA and Monash University.
He is also able to shape lessons around non-exam/recital based goals: e.g. planning to be able to perform a piece or a style to a reasonable standard by a set date. This can include improvisation and learning jazz and funk repertoire and vocabulary.
Damon teaches from his dedicated home recording studio in Eltham (Red Iris Studios) where he has various teaching materials and recording facilities. He is able to record lessons if necessary and give students access to a wide range of music resources.
Lessons are $40/half hour. $80/hour.
