Hi there!
I completed my Bachelor of Music Specialising in Jazz at ANU in 2002. Before moving to Canberra in 2019 I have been living in Sydney working as a freelance musician, music tutor and regular band member in a number of different ensembles. With a grounding in jazz and funk I spend my time playing in quite varied settings such as: Big bands, latin jazz bands, horn sections in funk, afrobeat, ska and rock bands and as a member (and occasional leader) in a few interesting and eclectic original projects. I’ve had the joy of performing around Sydney and surrounds, from the stages of The Sydney Festival through to Camelot Lounge in Marrickville.
I perform regularly in the ACT and occasionally out of town. Locally I’m often found with Brass Knuckle Brass Band, Goldseeker or my own trio/quintet.
I teach from my private studio in Evatt, as well as Marist and Daramalan. My teaching philosophy is pretty simple. We work on getting a good sound, improving technique, some theory and aural work, music reading and importantly, playing with the right attitude and confidence needed to enjoy yourself. Music has got to be fun, challenging and rewarding! We can also work on improvising.
Roomy studio, parental sit-ins always welcome. I have limited availability on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
