The man with the coolest name in the business, Karyl ‘Sonic’ Edwards specialises in contemporary electric bass, double bass and guitar.
He has spent more than two decades as a professional bassist playing countless gigs, touring internationally, being a ‘hired gun’ on recording sessions, producing records, playing to Festival audiences of 20,000+ people, performing on TV and radio shows that reached millions.
When he’s not inspiring students, he works as a session musician for a long list of artists such as Tania Kernaghan, 8th Day (US), The Dungarees (CAN) and Luke Dickens (Australian Idol runner up, Star Maker winner). He is the Musical Director for winner of The Voice 2017, Judah Kelly and is a regular in the bands of Country Artists, Drew McAlister and Brooke Schubert.
As an educator, Sonic has been a guest clinician for many music shops, institutions and church groups. Previously Sonic has worked as Bass Tutor at Redcliffe Academy of Music, Guitar Exchange, Allans Billy Hyde, and as Head of Jazz Bass Studies at JMI.
Sonic holds qualifications, Jazz Advanced Diploma of Music and Vocational Graduate Diploma of Multi Instrumental Pedagogy, both from JMI.
