About Me
This year, 2023, I would have been playing and practicing the electric and acoustic guitar for 18 years. After all this time I can safely say that it still brings me so much joy to learn a cover, create original music or jam with my friends.
The guitar has always been my safe haven, my escape, my love and my passion. Learning the guitar showed me the importance of consistency, practice, discipline and dedication to see any results in life.
Reflecting on my youth, I remember the importance of guitar on the impact it had on my confidence and sense of connection. I was the guitar player in school, there wasn’t many areas in school where I was excelling, but when it came to the guitar, I was, and that made me feel great.
Music Education and Influences
Bachelor of Music specialising in songwriting and guitar
I chose to move from Perth to Brisbane in 2019 to study a Bachelors of Music with specialisation in songwriting at JMC Academy. I felt that my guitar playing had plateaued and I wanted to understand music on a much deeper level.
My guitar and musical mentors at JMC were Tim Sladden and Simon Gardiner were pivotal in shaping me as a musician and guitarist, as well as inspiring me to teach others.
Being a musical mentor comes quite naturally to me and I feel so lucky to be able to share my expertise with my students.
I love seeing the confused faces turn into light bulb moments and I love seeing and hearing my students develop into master guitarists/musicians.
I have studied many different guitar players across the years but the ones that keep creeping back are: Jimmy Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Tommy Emmanuel, Ariel Posen and Ted Greene.
Musical Projects and Future Aspirations
I lead a 9 piece ensemble ‘The Vanguards’ to perform a set of my blues and roots original music on stage at the Triffid late 2021.
I was musical director and frontman of this project and learnt a lot about what it takes to perform and lead a band.
I am currently writing, recording and rehearsing for a new project with aspirations of releasing an album early 2024.
I love being apart of the Brisbane music scene and continuing to develop as an artist, mentor and human being.
