Before pursuing flute, Jirene studied piano at a young age and learnt from various teachers including Christine Simpson. She still engages in playing and teaching the piano to students.
Her passion for educating aspiring musicians in their musical journey has brought her to various teaching opportunities in schools and studios one of which was volunteering as a Flute Tutor as part of the Distance Learning Program in the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM). This involved conducting lessons online to assist in the development of these young musicians and imparting her knowledge to them. She believes that these musicians can use their skills and talents so that through them music can be a positive influence in their society and the world at large.
Jirene focuses in creating imagination and fun in her lessons to inspire and motivate her students to the best of their abilities in all aspect of performance, practice and teaching. She aims in allowing her students to embark on their musical journeys in whichever way that suits them best, catering to each student individually. She has experience in working with children and adults and is well equipped to support learners with a variety of learning needs including dyslexia, autism and mild to moderate intellectual abilities.
During the current climate, Jirene wishes to create a safe and secure environment to provide everyone the opportunity to learn music where each student can thrive to be at their best both in their musical and educational capacities.
