Hi there,
I’m a composer, alto saxophone and clarinet player, pianist, choir conductor and singer.
I teach various instruments, as well as theory, aural skills, composing and songwriting.
Most of all, I work with students to pursue their musical passion, while offering new ideas to further creativity and skill development.
Instrumental background:
In 2009 I completed a Bachelor of Music at Melbourne University, studying saxophone and teaching.
I’ve been playing saxophone for over 20 years. I studied mostly classical repertoire but I’m also familiar with jazz and pop styles. I performed with a hip hop group at festivals around Australia. I’ve had solo and ensemble experience in classical and jazz settings, including big band, wind ensemble and chamber music. Additionally I have been playing in bands for about 10 years.
I’ve been playing piano for over 25 years. My teaching is suited to beginners wanting to play classical or modern piano, and intermediate pianists wishing to play popular styles or improvise. I regularly perform my own piano-based songs and also play keyboard with various bands and artists.
I teach clarinet to intermediate level. I play with Melbourne group Unpainted Prospects.
I also play descant and treble recorders to a good standard, and I am a competent singer with an excellent sense of pitch. If you’d like help with these instruments I can teach the basics.
Other music tuition
-music theory to grade 3
-aural training
-how to play songs by ear and recognise chords
-assistance with improvisation and composition
Are you a songwriter? I can give useful and positive feedback. I’ve been writing my own piano-based songs for many years. I enjoy exploring other people’s ideas and giving encouragement, as well as constructive suggestions.
Please message me if you have any questions.
