Have you ever wanted to take up Piano or keyboard but never had the time?
Now’s your opportunity!
Through the teaching of chord progressions, you could be jamming with friends or family immediately. My approach facilitates memorisation of core repertoire and ultimately even sight reading as it encourages you to see patterns. It also improves your understanding of theory and composition because it takes an analytical and hands-on approach to musical theory, whilst also being enjoyable and providing immediate satisfaction.
I am a fully registered teacher with over 30 years’ classroom experience at primary and secondary levels, including having established a primary instrumental program. I have taught piano students of all ages, both privately and in groups. I have successfully prepared students for exams, including VCE, in the past and am familiar with the requirements of many examining boards.
I am an accomplished voice teacher who can get you singing popular and classical repertoire without the tension. I am skilled in identifying and remedying vocal problems by taking students back to the core of their voice and strengthening it. I am then able to work on extending the vocal range of my students, both upper and lower, whilst being careful to avoid a forced tone that could damage the voice.
In both fields I use a technique that is totally unforced and natural.
I have a first class honours degree in Musicology from Monash University and I completed classical piano studies under Margriet Pendavingh, an AMEB examiner, with whom I subsequently worked. I later studied jazz and other improvisation techniques with a jazz performer and educator.
I am a fully qualified language teacher and have taught Italian and French professionally. I have prepared choral and solo performers in several languages.
I have full Victorian Institute of Teaching and Victorian Music Teachers’ Association registration.
I am also available to accompany for exams and eisteddfods and am a fast sight reader, including reading lead sheets.
– Fees: $45.00 for 30 minutes, $65.00 for 45 minutes and $85.00 for an hour, payable in groups of 5 or 10, in advance.
