Judy Dempster

Judy taught the cello at Wesley College Melbourne for over 20 years and privately in her home studio. Most recently at Trinity Grammar School Sydney and as of January 2025 be teaching in her studio in West End Brisbane QLD.. Judy studied in Australia with Phillip Green, John Kennedy, Gabor Rejto at the University of Southern California, Lynn Harrell at SUNY Purchase, Lazslo Varga at the Aspen Music Festival, Heidi Litschauer at the Mozarteum, Salzburg, Chamber Music with Charles Castleman at IHEM, Montreux Switzerland, and Heidi Castleman at SUNY Purchase. She has completed a Master of Music in Performance Teaching at the Melbourne University Conservatorium and is a Grad. Dip. Ed. from La Trobe University in addition to the Concert Diploma of Music (Melb). Judy is an examiner for the AMEB and a Victorian Music Teachers Association council member 2009-17. September 2015 and April 2016 Judy was a guest Cello teacher at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music in Kabul. She toured China twice with the Melbourne Opera Orchestra and is a member of the Australian Strings Association. She strongly believes in the importance of ongoing professional development. Judy can teach effectively online if needed and some of her students have won music scholarships to private schools. She loves teaching students who wish to express themselves through playing the cello, including adult learners.
