You will learn safe and effective techniques to improve your vocal range and tone, breath control and phrasing, diction, healthy posture through Alexander and Feldenkrais Techniques, vocal placement, support and projection amongst other things. Stage performance, acting skills or music theory can also be incorporated into your lessons.
Similarly, piano lessons will focus on developing a sound technique and a regular practice routine so that you can enjoy playing all styles of music.
Many of Kerrie’s voice students perform in musical theatre and opera, in bands or choirs, and undertake further study and exams (AMEB, ANZCA, VCE, Tertiary and Post-Graduate). Her piano students are also ancouraged to work towards sitting AMEB exams. Although Kerrie encourages all students to build their confidence by participating in a variety of performance opportunities (competitions, exams, auditions, etc) she understands that some students just want to sing and / or play piano for fun, so lessons are always tailored to suit your individual needs and goals.
KERRIE’S EXPERIENCE:
Kerrie has performed and toured extensively with companies including Opera Australia, Oz Opera, Victorian Opera, Lyric Opera, Melbourne Opera, Co-Opera (South Australia, Germany, Switzerland) and Watch This. She is a regular Concert Soloist and has performed with companies such as The Melbourne Chorale (MSO Chorus), Orchestra Victoria, and Camberwell Chorale and Camerata Orchestra (Victoria, China).
She holds a Bachelor of Education (Music Major) from Deakin University, a Bachelor of Music Performance (Voice) from Melbourne University Conservatorium of Music, and a Masters of Music Performance from the Victorian College of the Arts. Kerrie was also a young artist at the VCA Opera Studio for two years and graduated Grade 8 AMEB Classical Piano. She also has full VIT registration.
With over 15 years of teaching experience Kerrie is currently a mentor to Masters of Performance Teaching students for the University of Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Whilst on staff at ACU (Australian Catholic University), Melba Conservatorium of Music and Victoria University (Sunbury Campus) she was also Guest Vocal Coach for Performance Master Classes at these institutions.
She currently teaches at Christ Church Grammar Toorak (voice, choir) and FCS (voice) and has also taught voice at Geelong Grammar’s Toorak Campus (Primary), Mac.Robertson’s Girls’ School (Year 7 to VCE), MacKillop College (Year 7 to VCE), Sacre Coeur (voice and junior choirs) and Star Train Academy (contemporary solo and ensemble).
