There are so many people who wish that they could play the piano, and who wish that they had learned piano as a child. Well, the good news is that it’s never too late to learn, and that NOW is the best time to start learning – whether for yourself, or your child.
Everyone has a reason that they start learning music. Reasons include: to play for leisure; to learn classical piano; and some want to do exams. No matter the reason, my aim is to engage students with what they want to learn and play. Whilst obviously some consistency in practice is beneficial, once I hear a student is going to the piano on their own to fiddle around and work things out beyond what is required, I give a silent cheer. That’s when practice goes effortlessly beyond the bare minimum, and becomes part of life. That’s what I count as successful teaching.
There are many benefits to learning music. Studies show that when the musical side of the brain is developed, it benefits the whole brain. Bigger Better Brains founder, Dr. Anita Collins, does research on this topic, and the results are in that this is indeed true. Have a look at her website, and her TED talk if you want to be amazed with this concept!!
So, if you are thinking of starting your child (or yourself for that matter!) in piano lessons, there is never a better time than now. I teach piano from my studio at home in Croydon. I have a WWCC, and am a full member of the Victorian Music Teachers Association. Lessons are $40 per half hour, and the first lesson is a free no obligation trial lesson.
