I offer quality cello teaching and coaching services for beginner and intermediate cellists. I can teach from the AMEB and ABRSM syllabuses as well as selecting pieces based on the specific needs of the student.
My teaching style prioritises a solid grounding in the physical foundations of cello playing to produce a natural and versatile style whilst ensuring the physical wellbeing of the student, as well as a solid understanding of the technical and expressive aspects of music making. In this way, I hope to produce both technical proficiency as well as a desire to improve and challenge oneself musically. I also encourage my students to find opportunities for performance beyond their individual practice and lessons with me.
About me:
I am currently a 2nd year Biomedicine student at the University of Melbourne, and have had over 200 hours of experience providing academic tutoring for high school students. Through group cello classes I also have extensive experience advising and coaching other students in the technical and musical aspects of cello playing.
I have had 10 years of cello playing experience, attaining an AMusA-LMusA standard of playing, and am currently studying cello privately with Yelian He, with whom I performed at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
I received my secondary education from Melbourne Grammar School, where I graduated in 2020 as Academic Head. During my time in high school, I was a member of the Symphony and String Orchestras as well as the Baroque Ensemble, serving variously as Principal or Assistant Principal Cellist. I have also performed as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra.
Currently, I am Assistant Principal cellist of the Melbourne University Biomedicine Student’s Orchestra (MUBSO). I also have a passion for chamber music and perform regularly with a string quartet.
