My name is Marian Arnold. I have wide-ranging musical interests, and I very much enjoy teaching music – violin, viola, theory and musicianship. I studied music at Sydney University, singing at the Sydney Conservatorium and later in London, and I studied violin with, amongst others, Kato Havas, Prof. Peter Zhang and Shuti Huang.
I am a fully qualified music teacher (BA Sydney Univ; Grad Dip Ed majoring in music and remedial education, and I hold the AMusA Diploma in violin performance). I play viola and violin in community orchestras and in chamber groups. I am Patron of the Cairns Winter Music School, and of the Canowindra BaroqueFest.
I spent 34 extremely successful years as a music broadcaster on ABC Classic FM radio, developing my own musical knowledge and understanding to a very high level, and since leaving the ABC in 2015 I have been able to rekindle my passion for teaching.
I believe strongly in shaping a lesson around each student’s individuality, with emphasis on good fundamental technique and musicianship. Preparation for AMEB exams is in accordance with the student’s wishes.
I believe music is a fundamentally beneficial activity which anybody, of any age or at any stage, can benefit from learning more about. It is never too early or too late, and beginners of any age are very welcome.
