Alex is a lyric tenor, educator, vocal ensemble singer, and director who specialises in the performance of very new and very old music. While singing is at the core of their professional life, they are very at home on the keyboard playing piano for the past 20 years and recently adding harpsichord and figured bass realisation to their skill set. Alex is an experienced educator, teaching music theory, history, and performance at a tertiary level with St Hilda’s and Ormond Colleges for five years alongside supporting private students, coaching choirs, and teaching sight reading to children. Alex is particular passionate about developing a technical foundation for vocal health versatility for their students allowing students to move between styles as they need and want. They are keen to support changing voices and gender diverse vocalists support a base technique that gives them tools to keep tackling new repertoire through any transitional period.
In their performing life Alex directs Divisi Chamber Singers. You can also find them singing up and down the East Coast with the Consort of Melbourne, Luminescence Chamber Singers, and most recently the Song Company Emerging Artist program. In 2025, Alex completed their Honours degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Melbourne and continues to perform as both a soloist and ensemble professional. Alex is particularly passionate about creating opportunities that enable young musicians to perform and have their works performed. They work regularly with new composers and prioritise programming emerging Australian composers. Recently they had their opera debut as Don Ottavio in BK Opera’s production of Don Giovanni.
Outside of music, Alex contributed to authoring four physics textbooks and taught VCE mathematics and physics. They are are a passionate rock-climber, love the outdoors and fishing.
