Music is a medium that facilitates creativity, space and communication, and we believe that every child, especially children with special needs (i.e. autism, etc.) should have the uninhibited opportunity to access music-learning, in which piano can be a classical instrument to improve their skills and functions in various areas:
– Cognitive Skills (multi-tasking, recalling, attention)
– Motor Skills (fingering, muscle-control, coordination)
– Communication/Expression Skills (listening, vocalising, singing)
As each child with special needs have diverse talents and needs, lessons are individualized. Care is taken if certain needs arise, requiring therapeutic intervention (such as emotional/sensory regulation) to aid in the child’s participation.
The demography of special needs students include (but not limited to):
– Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
– Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
– Intellectual Disability (ID)
– Global Development Delay
– Speech Delay
A trial lesson will be essential to assess your child’s suitability.
If learning piano is not suitable for your child, but music is his/her interest, you can consider music therapy, which does not restrict a child to any particular instrument but utilizes a wide variety of percussive instruments to facilitate engagement and participation for your child to be able to enjoy and express themselves through music.
