Hello! I am a composer, producer and drummer, from Melbourne, working as a teacher in all 3 areas. In 2015 I completed a bachelor of fine arts (majoring in interactive composition) from the University of Melbourne. This included studying on exchange for a year at Occidental College, Los Angeles. In 2005 I completed an advanced diploma in music performance (jazz and contemporary) on the drum kit at Melbourne Polytechnic.
As a drummer, I have worked with artists such as Matt Corby, Tina Arena, Harry Angus (Cat Empire) and Paris Wells, having performed, recorded and toured extensively over the past 12 years. In that time I have also been teaching drum kit both privately and in schools.
As a composer, I have written commissioned works for the Hobart Chamber Orchestra, contemporary classical group Opus House, and the Xyris saxophone quartet written, recorded and produced my own EPs and album (which can be heard at www.timothycoghillmusic.bandcamp.com), and taught composition, songwriting, theory and musicianship privately over the past 5 years. As far as song writing is concerned, I have co-written with Matt Corby, Lisa Salvo, Baptiste and many more.
I also have extensive experience as a producer of both my own music, as well as other artist’s, having produced music for artists such as Baptiste, Lisa Salvo, Joel And Ally Dowling, and Zii, as well as my own EPs and album (which can be heard at www.timothycoghillmusic.bandcamp.com). I am well versed with platforms such as pro tools and logic, and have been working with computers in the creation of music for the past 10 years.
I am a warm and engaging person, interested in helping others of all ages achieve a deeper level of skill and understanding in whichever facet of music they wish to work on. I believe that students thrive on positive reinforcement, so credit should be given where it is due. I have a wide range of musical understanding and experience, and therefore have a vast quantity of knowledge to pass onto my students. I believe that my well rounded knowledge of a wide range of music, together with my ability to effectively communicate ideas in their simplest formats is a strength of mine.
